About this event
Explorations is the third level of this progressive series that focuses on not just the hows of good rope play, but on the whys as well.
In the Explorations level, we will leverage all the skills we’ve learned so far to dig into some of the more niche rope applications.
Whether you are newer to rope or have been tying/getting tied for years, expect to come away with new tools and a better understanding of your rope from both sides.
Through a combination of technical instruction and hands-on time, we will explore a variety of methods for tying the head, fingers, feet, and toes. We will also discuss the safety considerations, both physical and psychological, of tying these more vulnerable parts of the body. (Attendees can opt out of any of the exercises.) If there is time and interest, we will also cover hair ties, crotch rope, and other side quests.
We will continue to refine skills for confident rope handling and building muscle memory.
This class is not designed to be self-tied. For self-tiers or those without tying partners, select the observer ticket option.
PREREQUISITES:
• Attendees will be expected to be up to speed on the content covered in all Foundations level courses, including rope safety, single column ties, frictions and hitches, reverse tension, forward tension, hojo cuffs, how to extend rope, and how to lock ties with a half hitch.
• If tying, you must be able to efficiently and without assistance tie an arms free chest harness that utilizes doubled shoulder lines (a shinju with doubled shoulder lines is fine).
• Working understanding of good rope handling.
• If getting tied, you should have a good warm up routine and a working understanding of upper body nerves, nerve vulnerabilities, and how to conduct hand checks.
SUPPLIES:
• A tenugui / fabric to use under face rope
• 3-4 lengths of rope approximately 8m to 30’ (feel free to bring more)
• You will also find having half and quarter lengths useful
• Cutting tool
• Yoga/puzzle mat
INSTRUCTOR BIOS:
Wanderlustre is one of the organizers of Rope and Coffee, Sacramento’s longest running rope education event. She has a deep love of both the art and the science of rope, and has dedicated more than a decade to learning, developing, and sharing her skills and knowledge on the subject. Her joyfully creative, sadistic, and experimental tying style is informed by years of engaging deeply with ever developing theory and practice learned from rope experts around the world, and she is excited to share her knowledge and experience with others.
-Ethan- is a passionate and seasoned rope enthusiast who is always willing to talk shop and share his thoughts on experiences as a self tier and rope switch–even when he’s hanging upside down for the better part of an hour. He has a deep interest in encouraging people on all sides of the rope to invest in themselves to gain the knowledge and agency to have the stupidest fun possible together while managing shared risks effectively.
