COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Beneto Foundation granted $20K to local nonprofit Make It Happen (which works to ease furniture poverty among underserved Yolo County residents) to expand its services.  The Davis Enterprise
  • The UC Davis Medal is being awarded to local community leaders today in recognition of their service — the ceremony is held on campus.  The Davis Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cross Cultural Center hosted its Threads of Tradition event, where student designers showcased cultural garments such as hand-embroidered dresses and qipao blended with denim to highlight heritage + creativity. Roughly 50 attendees cheered on the vibrant displays and supportive atmosphere.  The California Aggie

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UC Davis received a record 122,271 undergraduate applications for fall 2026 + including a record number of California residents, with first-year and transfer numbers up from last year. Admissions will notify first-year applicants in the first half of March and transfer applicants in late March.  UC Davis
  • Robert D. and A. Kathleen Grey will be awarded the 2026 UC Davis Medal for nearly six decades of service at the university + their work advanced research and early childhood education on campus. The honor recognizes their leadership and lasting impact on local learning.  UC Davis
  • On Feb. 18 at UC Davis' Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, two visiting economists debated federal funding for research during the Chancellor’s Colloquium Distinguished Speaker Series; audience votes shifted from 77% to 54% support for one view. The debate examined how public funding may impact scientific breakthroughs (like the internet and GPS).  UC Davis
  • Seventh-grader Sarah Luckenbill from Emerson Jr. High won the Day of Remembrance poster contest and earned a $50 prize for her entry (Never Again).  The Davis Enterprise
  • UC Davis professor emeritus R. Paul Singh has spent 50 years developing computer models that help reduce food waste through better airflow in packaging, and he now shares his expertise through remote experiments and online lectures (supporting sustainable food systems).  UC Davis

  • Leigh Ann Simmons from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing explains on Face to Face With Chancellor May that federal funding supports studies of maternal health equity and guides prevention measures.
