  • The UC Davis Iranian Student Organization is hosting events to offer a safe space for Iranian American students as they support each other amid conflict abroad. The group balances differing opinions to help the community stay connected.  The California Aggie

CULTURE NEWS

  • UC Davis’ Baile de Fuego club hosts free Latin dance lessons and socials every Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hoagland Hall 113, where students and community members learn dances like bachata and salsa in a welcoming space.  The California Aggie
  • UC Davis' Department of Theatre and Dance opened 'The Drowsy Chaperone' on Feb. 26 at Main Theater in Wright Hall. Directed by Rhett Guter, the vibrant musical paid homage to early 20th-century shows, mixing classic tunes (by Michael G. French) and energetic numbers that delighted audiences.  The California Aggie
  • UC Davis students have talked about how NorCal and SoCal personalities affect campus culture, with NorCal peers showing focus on careers and SoCal students having a relaxed style & diverse outlook. They say these differences shape daily life in Davis.  The California Aggie

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UC Davis earned a global ranking today — placing second in the world in veterinary science and agriculture and forestry while ranking first in the nation — according to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The rankings also ranked the university among the top in several other areas.  UC Davis
  • The February Crowdfund UC Davis cohort set records with 51 projects raising $144,984 from 1,205 donors — including projects like Move Together, Heal Together for cancer survivors and the Outdoor Adventures Access Fund that reached a $50,000 endowment. Applications for the October cohort are open through June 26.  UC Davis
  • The Academic Senate and Federation have honored 15 UC Davis academics for their contributions to research, teaching and public service. Professor John M. Boone will give his public lecture at the UC Davis Conference Center on Thursday, May 21 (an upcoming event).  UC Davis
  • UC Davis paleontologist Tracy Thomson explained that a new species, Spinosaurus mirabilis, discovered in Niger has a crest (made of keratin) believed to have been used for display and warning signals, prompting scientists to rethink dinosaur behavior and appearance.  The California Aggie
  • Davis High's speech & debate team qualified seven students for state at Granite Bay High School from March 13 to 14 after competing against over 180 teams.  The Davis Enterprise
  • UC Davis researchers received a $4.9 million grant in January to advance self-cloning crop technology through synthetic apomixis. Their work builds on past success in rice to boost yields and now focuses on adapting the method to dicots (such as Indian mustard).  The California Aggie

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study led by UC Davis released on Tuesday, Mar. 24 finds that food labels highlighting only high levels of added sugar, sodium or saturated fat help shoppers spot less healthy products quickly. Researchers say the FDA’s current design may give a false impression of healthfulness.  UC Davis
