CRIME NEWS

  • A shooting at Davis Community Park injured individuals Saturday afternoon—occurring as annual Picnic Day events were winding down—and Davis Police are investigating the incident while UC Davis supports affected students.  UC Davis

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Davis schools have seen a significant drop in enrollment that is hurting district finances and may force school closures and program cuts—there is a risk that reduced student numbers could lead to lasting budget troubles. DJUSD Superintendent Matt Best said rising housing costs and fewer young families are behind the decline, and without affordable housing the financial gap will widen.  Davis Vanguard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Davis is reviewing five proposals from a March 18 staff report to address homelessness, with the police department and local non-profits set to share responsibilities. The council advanced plans to hire a downtown beat officer, contract cleanup services, and start a sanctioned camping program while seeking more details on extending respite center hours and a community navigator system.  The California Aggie
  • The Davis City Council will consider approving a revised development agreement that transfers responsibility for the long-delayed Chiles Ranch housing project to Century Communities of California and its financing partner Hearthstone at 2411 East 8th Street. City planning staff said Century will build under the original requirements with 96 residential lots through July 2029 — while Hearthstone will hold title and finance the project.  Davis Vanguard
