CRIME NEWS

  • At a preliminary hearing at Yolo County Superior Court, Deputy Public Defender Cheyanne Martin argued that bodycam footage did not show the accused driving during a high-speed chase along State Route 99 and claimed that sexism influenced the arrest — Deputy District Attorney David William Robbins dismissed her claims while the accused remains free on a $10,000 bond with a next court date on May 7.  Davis Vanguard
  • Yolo County Superior Court granted judicial diversion to a young mother charged with misdemeanor petty theft for stealing $190 in children’s clothing from Target in October—she must attend a theft education class and complete eight hours of community service at a food bank or shelter—and scheduled a review hearing on Oct. 21 to assess her progress.  Davis Vanguard

  • The Senate advanced the Cabaldon bill that would unite Yolo County into a single community college district—revisiting a 1975 decision that placed Woodland Community College in the Yuba Community College District despite an 83% no vote by residents.  The Davis Enterprise
