Testimony began in the Davis serial stabbing trial as witnesses—among them UC Davis students Aidan Reynolds and Ian Haliburton—recounted details from April 27th, 2023 in downtown Davis, and the trial will continue.

Trial openings began Monday in Woodland when Carlos Reales Dominguez, a former UC Davis student, was charged with killing David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm and injuring Kimberlee Guillory — prosecutors presented evidence of premeditation while his attorney argued his actions were due to untreated schizophrenia.

Deputy District Attorney Jesse Richardson asked for a delay in a mental health diversion hearing for an accused facing charges such as assault, vandalism, and drug offenses because he needed more time to review court documents—Judge Sonia Cortes granted the delay and conditionally allowed the accused to enter treatment if a facility is ready, with a follow-up hearing set for May 13.

UCD researchers removed gluten proteins from wheat in a laboratory study that may lead to safer wheat for people with gluten sensitivity; they plan to test the new varieties in future studies.
