- ➤ On Thursday, Judge Samuel T. McAdam sustained the defense objection to the Amazon search records used in the trial of Carlos Reales Dominguez, who faces two counts of murder and additional charges — the trial is set to resume Monday, May 12 at 9 a.m. for further proceedings. Davis Vanguard

- ➤ Today through May 12, the 56th annual Whole Earth Festival—a student-run event focused on sustainability & activism—returns to the Memorial Union Quad with free entry, live music on two stages, vegetarian food vendors, and over 120 craft booths. - ➤ James B. Milliken, the chancellor of the University of Texas system, was chosen as the University of California’s next president and he will take office in August to lead 10 campuses and over 300,000 students—he earned a board-approved salary of $1,473,000 amid state budget cuts and reduced federal research funds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yolo County will hold a public groundbreaking ceremony on May 16 at 8:30 a.m. — the event will mark the start of work on a new solar energy canopy system at the central landfill. The Davis Enterprise
- ➤ On April 26, the Davis Human Relations Commission voted to send recommendations to the city council after studying hate incidents and discrimination against Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians. Several community members supported the report while one commission member dissented—citing flawed methods and bias in the study. The California Aggie
- ➤ On May 13, the Davis City Council will decide on a proposed amendment to Measure J/R/D that would let certain affordable housing projects bypass a citywide vote and move the Village Farms proposal to the June ballot.
