  • Yolo Food Bank will lose over $2 million in federal funding, cutting its $5.1 million budget by nearly 40% due to reduced food aid and expiring pandemic funds. Executive director Karen Baker warned that without local donations the food bank may have to cut distributions for 9,300 families relying on its services — a change that could worsen food insecurity in the area.  The California Aggie

  • The UC Davis Lounge Lizards held their 30th anniversary showcase at Khaira Hall from May 3 to May 4, where the group (16 members) performed a cappella routines that showed their dedication and skill in music. They celebrated 30 years of community talent with a set that highlighted their hard work and artistry.  The California Aggie
  • On April 27, the UC Davis Student Farm held the 2025 Semillas y Culturas Summit where people learned about healthy food growing and native food ways through talks and workshops — the seventh event brought campus groups together.  The California Aggie

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A UC Davis columnist said that even after receiving internship rejection emails, students can fill the upcoming summer by taking courses, working on personal projects, earning certifications, or finding local jobs and volunteer roles—offering new ways to gain skills for future opportunities.  The California Aggie

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. John Madigan of UC Davis developed a simple rope squeeze technique that helps foals with maladjustment syndrome recover faster by inducing a slow wave sleep for 20 minutes—this helps them start nursing sooner and gain immunity. His team is now running a worldwide survey and over 35 countries have reported that the procedure shows promising results in newborn animals.  The California Aggie
