The Memorial Day Ceremony will honor all 136 Gold Star Aggies, including 11 who died 80 years ago, at noon Thursday at the Memorial Union north courtyard—details of this tribute are displayed in the Golden Memory Book.
Dr. Arthur B. Dublin will be the keynote speaker—Chancellor Gary S. May will also give welcome remarks at the event.
Volunteers will paint rainbow crosswalks at Davis’ Central Park between 6 and 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 25—marking the start of Pride Month.
🚨 Crime
At Yolo County Superior Court, a witness testified that Carlos Dominguez’s mental health declined — he missed UC Davis advising sessions and acted erratically — before his alleged stabbing spree, and he now faces two felony murder counts, one count of attempted murder, and additional enhancements.
Dominguez's father and sister testified in Davis during a stabbing trial—Juan Reales said a reporter alerted him in May 2023 that his son was arrested for murder.
🎓 Education
On May 1, the UC Davis Foundation honored Kevin Bacon ’72 with the 2025 Charles J.
Soderquist Award for exceptional philanthropy, volunteerism, and leadership—Bacon and his wife Kim then donated the $10,000 prize to the Bohart Museum of Entomology.
University leaders from 27 research institutions gathered on campus from May 7th to May 9th to discuss challenges in higher education such as equity and inclusion.
Key speakers said universities must take concrete steps to address funding cuts and global pressures — and UC Davis remains the only U21 member in the western United States.
Today, UC Davis continues its 'From Labs to Lives' series to help residents understand federally funded research and what may happen if the funds stop.

🌲 Environment
Scientists at UC Davis found that native northwestern pond turtles in Yosemite started to return after invasive bullfrogs nearly disappeared—turtles became 2 to 100 times more common where bullfrogs were removed.
The study shows that removing bullfrogs may help native turtle populations recover.
