COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of Jewish residents and allies told Davis City Council they do not feel safe in Davis due to antisemitic graffiti and a MAPA report that they say singles out Jewish voices—prompting calls to reform or disband the Human Relations Commission.  Davis Vanguard

CRIME NEWS

  • Yesterday, Judge McAdam dismissed some evidence after finding prosecutorial misconduct and both sides delivered closing arguments in the trial of Carlos Reales Dominguez, a former UC Davis student accused of murdering two men and attempting to murder a woman, with the defense arguing his schizophrenia influenced his actions while the prosecution stressed his calculated intent.  Davis Vanguard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Adam Hilt, president of Slaughterhouse Comedy, said his club had to turn to student government support when the Club Finance Council spent over its $170,000 budget and ran out of funds last school year—forcing clubs to secure extra money for their events. Senate Bill #78 was passed at a May 7 meeting to help fund the venue for a show on May 30, though clubs still had to scramble for additional resources.  The California Aggie

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 14, Davis and Yolo County officials met for their bimonthly 2x2 meeting at City Hall to discuss the Pacifico Housing Support Program, F Street encampment cleanups and a new crisis response plan; they reported that Pacifico’s design is 100% complete and will be reviewed in September before going out to bid in November. The meeting also focused on coordinated response efforts for encampment safety and the county is exploring options with local providers for crisis services — a sign of ongoing collaboration — as agencies work together to support vulnerable residents.  The California Aggie
  • YIMBY leaders Nolan Gray and Brooke Pritchard said Senate Bill 79 will promote dense housing near transit hubs to fight California’s rising housing crisis — Davis now faces limited options for infill housing as Measure J restricts development on open lands.  Davis Vanguard
  • Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency is seeking community volunteers to serve on the Local Advisory Committee for Proposition 47 — Cohort 5.  The Davis Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • A West Sacramento resident tested positive for measles—this case is the 13th confirmed and a Davis hospital was exposed to the virus. Health officials are investigating the exposure and advising anyone who may have come in contact to seek medical care.  The Davis Enterprise

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UC Davis men’s golf team finished tied with UC Irvine in third overall at the Big West Championship at La Quinta Country Club from April 27 to 29—Zack Tarter led with a strong final round, and the team will build on this performance when they advance to future NCAA Regionals.  The California Aggie
  • At the Big West Championships in Santa Monica on April 24 and 25, the UC Davis women’s beach volleyball team played close matches but lost key pool play games before being eliminated in bracket play. The Aggies faced CSUN & Cal Poly in pool play and were ousted in bracket play & by University of Hawaiʻi, ending their season.  The California Aggie
