On June 18th, a Superior Court ruled in Orange County in favor of Newport Beach’s decision to use its state housing element without a public vote; this ruling may affect Davis where Measure J (the local voter rule) requires voter approval for rezoning.
City leaders may soon need to revise Measure J to meet state housing law and avoid potential fines.
Professor Todd Clear, a mass incarceration expert, spoke with Davis Vanguard host David Greenwald in a new Everyday Injustice podcast episode.
He explained that his work since the Attica Rebellion shows prisons often keep people locked up longer than needed — a trend harming poor neighborhoods — and he calls for reforms that put community health first.
