Yolo County Superior Court denied an accused's motion for judicial diversion on Tuesday morning due to past theft and probation violations despite his stable housing and caregiving for his uncle—he must return on Aug.

🎓 Education
The UC Board of Regents appointed UC Davis graduate student Miguel Craven as the 2026‑27 student regent-designate at its July 16 meeting, and he will serve from July 1 to June 30 while gaining voting rights once his term begins on July 1.
Craven previously led student government at UC Merced and worked to expand funding and opportunities for students.
🏛️ Government
California lawmakers advanced two bills to stop law enforcement from wearing face coverings that hide their identities—SB 627 and SB 805 passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee and will now go to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
Supporters say the measures will help restore trust in policing.
