A judge denied a motion to dismiss felony charges against three UC Davis students for spray-painting an Egghead sculpture during a pro-Palestinian protest in May— the students remain out of custody as they face charges of conspiracy and vandalism.

Researchers from UC Davis and collaborators published a study on July 21 in Cell that found two duplicated genes may affect human brain size and synapse signaling.

They used zebrafish (a model organism) to test gene functions and provided a data resource (by UC Davis scientists) to help screen for mutations linked to language disorders and autism.

Home prices in Davis now average about $900,000, which is far beyond what most local workers can afford.

Experts say the crisis is not caused by individual choices but by long-standing zoning issues and a lack of affordable new homes—forcing many full-time professionals to struggle with homeownership.
