🌲 Environment
A UC Davis study in Nature Communications found giant sequoias given prescribed burns within the past decade were four times more likely to survive the 2020 and 2021 wildfires in the Sierra Nevada — saving about 1,900 trees.
The study estimated up to 3,900 additional trees might have survived if all had been treated.
🏛️ Government
Yolo County Board of Supervisors appointed Dr. Joanna Locke as the new Public Health Officer — effective Monday, Aug.
24 — replacing Dr. Aimee Sisson.
The Yolo County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Clark Pacific’s request on Tuesday to convert 76 acres of agricultural land west of its Woodland facility to heavy industrial use.
The move could pave the way for further development in the area.
