Yolo Food Bank has acquired a new electric harvest van funded by a $30,000 grant from the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District to ease crop harvesting for its volunteers and staff.

UC Davis extended offers to 48,015 first-year and 10,138 transfer students for fall studies, setting a record after a 1.8% rise in applications and expecting about 6,300 new freshmen, mostly from California.
UC Davis researchers discovered that a gene called SDMYB causes avocado trees to switch roles in their flowers to avoid self-pollination.
The finding may help breeders identify tree types before they flower, speeding up new variety development.
