- ➤ Alum Joe Sasto, a UC Davis graduate known for his Top Chef appearances, will release his first cookbook, Breaking the Rules: A Fresh Take on Italian Classics, on October 21—he intends to share creative recipes and personal stories that challenge traditional Italian cuisine. - ➤ A study by UC Davis computer scientists led by Yash Vekaria shows that GenAI browser assistants collect and share sensitive data without users knowing—tests found some assistants captured full webpage content and even social security numbers. - ➤ A UC Davis study found that since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks in 2023, California Jews experienced a 30 percent rise in depression and a 45 percent increase in anxiety caused by growing antisemitism, with over 60 percent reporting incidents. Surveying more than 200 Northern California Jewish parents from September 2023 to August 2024, the researchers recommended improved mental health services and cultural training for providers—highlighting urgent community needs.
