Today, California lawmakers passed new housing laws SB 79 and CEQA reform that loosen zoning restrictions and reduce legal challenges — Davis is not affected because its Amtrak station does not meet major transit criteria and local projects still require voter approval under Measure J. Developers may find fewer legal delays while the housing shortage persists as state enforcement continues.
Today on the Everyday Injustice podcast — host David Greenwald interviewed David Gaspar of The Bail Project to show how the cash bail system punishes low-income people; Gaspar recounted his own wrongful sentence and urged a shift from detention spending to support services.
