The Davis Food Co-op hired security guards with tactical gear—which has raised community concerns and sparked a petition with over 250 signatures that calls for their removal and a shift to funding community programs.

The Co-op board met on Sept 8, where speakers expressed their worries, and organizers hope the conversation leads to change.

Last weekend, the city of Davis launched a pilot project to improve traffic safety at several Fifth Street intersections in Old East Davis — the project will test new measures to make roads safer.
