- ➤ Davis Odd Fellows Lodge held a monthly bingo game on Sunday, Sept. 14 that raised $1,628 for the Davis Robotics Foundation — a nonprofit that supports science, technology, engineering and math. The Davis Enterprise
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Davis Food Co-op hired a private security firm to address staff and customer safety concerns, and the move has received mixed reviews from local patrons. The Co-op will monitor the firm's performance in the coming weeks + may adjust its strategy as needed. The Davis Enterprise
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine announced plans to expand its veterinary complex with $110.5M in gifts, adding new facilities such as an imaging center, equine hospital, education pavilion, and primary care hospital to address a vet workforce shortage and boost patient care. The project will increase enrollment from 600 to 800 students and raise patient capacity from 50,000 to 70,000 over the next 10 years — building on projects since 2016 and donor support including a $50M challenge grant from the Wayne and Gladys Valley Foundation. - ➤ The Davis City Council is debating the future of the Davis Daytime Respite Center as the Downtown Streets Team will shut down operations on Oct. 31—risking a gap in essential services for unhoused residents.
