  • The Digital Agriculture Laboratory at UC Davis has developed the Leaf Monitor tool—a mobile AI device that uses a handheld spectrometer to scan crop leaves in seconds—to help farmers make fast fertilizer decisions and improve yields; early tests on vineyards and almonds showed promising results at Bullseye Farms.  UC Davis

CRIME NEWS

  • Campus officials at UC Davis warned that phishing emails are tricking students and staff into giving up login details and advised them to ignore suspicious messages and report them to ([email protected]) to help stop fraud.  The California Aggie

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fourth-year Catherine Pham, a human biology major who transferred from De Anza to UC Davis, will leave for dental school in Florida this fall after enjoying many small moments in Davis. She was active in the Pre-Dental Society and recalls campus events like Lawntopia (a student-run music festival) that made her college life special.  The California Aggie

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Newsom signed SB 627, a law that stops law enforcement officers from covering their faces during public interactions. Legal scholars are split—UC Davis professor Amar argues the law violates the Supremacy Clause while UC Berkeley Law Dean Chemerinsky says equal rules should apply to federal agents.  Davis Vanguard

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at UC Davis led by Professor Neil Hunter discovered that certain proteins keep chromosomes connected correctly in egg and sperm cells to prevent issues like infertility and Down syndrome. The study used yeast and undergraduates' help to show that protecting a structure called the double Holliday junction—common in human cells—is key for proper cell division.  UC Davis

SPORTS NEWS

  • UC Davis offers over 30 recreational sports for students, faculty and school affiliates with options to join competitive leagues or flexible recreational teams—leagues run for a month with playoffs, mini leagues and quick tournaments provide more choices. Additional lessons in archery, gymnastics and tennis will be available and registration details for fall quarter will open online.  The California Aggie
  • UC Davis and Sac State share a long sports rivalry in Yolo County—born from the Causeway Classic that began in 1954 with a horse-drawn carriage trophy donated by a Sac State alum. The schools play many sports and will add a boxing match before the football game to show the rivalry lives on.  The California Aggie
