EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dino Clark, a longtime employee and hoops coach at Harper Junior High known as the Dino of local youth basketball, filed a complaint against the school district alleging racist abuse after 28 years of alleged attacks.  The Davis Enterprise
  • On Oct.15, the Office of Strategic Communications will ask all UC Davis websites and social media accounts to support From Labs to Lives, a campaign that highlights the impact of federally funded research. A toolkit with Canva templates, photo frames, and other resources is available for faculty and staff—organizers say the event will show what may be lost if funding cuts occur.  UC Davis

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The UC Davis Fire Department will carry out a prescribed burn on campus reserve land west of County Road 98 on Friday, Oct. 17 to restore native grasses, remove invasive species, and reduce fire risk. The event is coordinated with local fire departments—if weather conditions change, the burn may be cancelled.  UC Davis

  • The city re-paved Village Homes neighborhood as part of its pavement rehab program—some residents questioned why main thoroughfares were not prioritized.  The Davis Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new UC Davis study found that certain cells work together to help prevent a sudden drop in blood sugar among diabetics. Researchers hope the discovery will lead to better treatment for people with diabetes.  The Davis Enterprise
