Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 9th of October.
Good morning, Davis.
On Oct. 8, UC Davis was ranked No. 9 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026—making it one of four UC campuses in the nation’s top 10; the university also placed 25th among American universities and 64th among nearly 2,200 global institutions.
A freight train moving slowly through downtown Davis blocked key crossings and delayed emergency vehicles, exposing a long-known safety risk for the city and Union Pacific Railroad.
Though a rail relocation project was proposed years ago, officials have yet to fix the danger—public safety remains at risk.
