ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A study by UC Davis and the Max Planck Institute found that young great tits learn to find food more from their siblings than from their parents—since they get only about 10 days of care after leaving the nest. Researchers tracked 229 fledglings with feeding puzzles over 10 weeks to clarify how the birds pick up new skills. UC Davis

- ➤ City officials said the California Strategic Growth Council awarded a $420,000 grant this week to help purchase a 79-acre agricultural conservation easement—funding expected to support future acquisition efforts that will protect local farmland. The Davis Enterprise
- ➤ Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig and 29 other California prosecutors opposed Proposition 50 because it would end the voter-approved redistricting commission—risking partisan gerrymandering—and waste $300 million on a special election.
