Engineers, neuroscientists, and neurosurgeons at UC Davis and UC Davis Health have demonstrated that a brain-computer interface used for speech can also control a computer cursor, allowing a man with ALS to move the cursor in just 40 seconds.
The breakthrough may lead to further advances that give people with paralysis increased autonomy—an innovation built on past research at the UC Davis Neuroprosthetics Lab.
