EDUCATION NEWS

  • UC Davis launched the October Crowdfund UC Davis campaign to support 30 projects led by students, faculty and staff—this campaign runs through Oct. 31 and focuses on advocacy, health, innovation and student organizations to bring meaningful change on campus and beyond.  UC Davis
  • UC Davis has named new leaders for many of its institutes. The appointments include Jason Bond as executive associate dean for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Andrea C. Alfaro as director of the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute effective Jan. 1, Alison Book as associate dean for Human Services, Jenny Kaminer as director of the Davis Humanities Institute, Alissa Kendall as director of the Institute of Transportation Studies, Archana Venkatesan as faculty director of the GradPathways Institute, and Clare Cannon as interim director of the Institute of the Environment (after serving in interim roles) along with four endowed chairs and one research scholar for the School of Law (chosen for strong leadership and teaching records).  UC Davis
  • UC Davis honors Michael D. Lairmore, a former dean who advanced One Health by linking animal, people and environmental care through research and mentoring. His career achievements include expanding interdisciplinary programs and co-authoring a book that explains global health challenges + his work inspires a new generation of veterinary experts.  UC Davis

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UC Davis updated its email list policy so that only active faculty or staff may serve as administrators and new mailing list requests must follow the revised guidelines. The university will review existing lists and close those inactive or non-compliant in a phased process (for compliance).  UC Davis
  • Data from California’s Racial and Identity Profiling Act shows that Black and Latino drivers in Davis were stopped at rates more than twice those of white drivers, and many residents have experienced profiling that strains community trust. The City of Davis continues to pursue reforms with measures such as a Community-Police Alternative Conflict Resolution Pilot Program, a Police Accountability Board, and state amendments signed on Oct. 13 that require recorded consent for searches — steps aimed at boosting accountability.  Davis Vanguard
