Good morning, Davis.
🎓 Education
UC Davis ran a six-day ecogeomorphology course in June that sea-kayaked the San Juan Islands (Salish Sea), where 11 scientists and creative-writing students paddled about 50 miles and visited seven islands to combine field science with nature writing.
UC Davis researchers and collaborators reported in Nature Ecology & Evolution that two nearly complete skeletons from Guizhou, China, reveal Gerrothorax maritimus—the first fully marine amphibian on record, an armored, three-foot, bottom-dwelling Late Triassic creature about 237 million years old (researchers say its armor and gills likely let it live in the ocean).
UC Davis will join the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Coffee and Cacao (CCIL) to lead coffee postharvest research and deploy field-ready cacao tools — training producers and delivering data to growers in Hawaiʻi, the U.S., and partner countries to boost quality, resilience, and supply-chain sustainability.
