COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Davis Friends Meeting will dedicate a new Freedge in Davis on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Friends Meetinghouse (345 L St.) while discussing homelessness.  The Davis Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • Editors from Davis shared a guide to fall activities that recommends visiting local spots such as Impossible Acres (with a pumpkin patch and farm animals), enjoying spooky books indoors and sampling seasonal treats at the Farmers Market. The guide also announced that the Pence Gallery’s Holiday Market will open Nov. 14 (featuring handmade art from local creators).  The California Aggie
  • Día de Muertos celebrations are taking place on campus and in Woodland with an open altar at the Mondavi Center today and more events on Oct. 30 and Saturday, Nov. 1. UC Davis will host events with altars at King Hall and Sproul Courtyard while Woodland’s TANA features art workshops, live performances and a limited print sale—allowing community members to honor loved ones.  UC Davis

  • UC Davis Chancellor Gary May appointed Mark I. Rosenblatt as vice chancellor of human health sciences to lead UC Davis Health—three hospitals under his oversight.  The Davis Enterprise

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After Halloween, Davis residents will be urged to compost their pumpkins to lower waste and enrich soil health. The advisory recommends recycling spent gourds into compost — a method that supports local environmental efforts.  The Davis Enterprise
  • Yolo County Sustainability Division invites residents to shape a zero-emission future with a new interactive online map and survey focused on clean transportation—input will help guide future initiatives on shared mobility and zero-emission vehicles.  The Davis Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Davis activist Dillan Horton said his family taught him to care for fairness and change from an early age. He now works with local groups and city commissions—pushing for affordable housing and asking people to remain hopeful amid criticism.  The California Aggie
