CULTURE NEWS

  • Ahead of Valentine’s Day, UC Davis students shared their favorite romance films and shows, including classics like '10 Things I Hate About You' (as noted by one student) that capture real-life love. EDUCATION NEWS

  • UC Davis received a *$120 million* gift from Joan and Sanford I. Weill to rename its Veterinary School and boost cross-campus research on animal and human health. A campus campaign, *From Labs to Lives*, will celebrate its first anniversary on Feb. 25 with a web and social media takeover.  UC Davis
  • UC Davis will close its four IET Open Access computer labs in June and replace them with an expanded Virtual Computer Lab Pilot to offer anytime online access to needed software. On-campus classrooms and printing services will remain available for students and affiliates.  The California Aggie
  • Shields Library updated three reservable study rooms with campus-themed decorations, including the Arboretum, Egghead, and Bicycle Rooms. The remaining five will be redecorated by the end of March to make the spaces more inviting to students.  The California Aggie

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers from USDA ARS and UC Davis tested a new method that combines a pesticide with an inhibitor to fight varroa mites harming honeybee colonies. The study published Feb. 16 found that the treatment increased amitraz’s effect by 50% while keeping bees safe.  UC Davis

  • The Davis Police Department invites community members to attend a de-escalation training session on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at the City Council chambers of Davis City Hall (23 Russell Blvd).  The Davis Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Research shows that sleep timing and steady habits are as important as eight hours of rest for health. UC Davis experts say that syncing sleep with your body clock may lower risks of heart disease and diabetes.  The California Aggie

  • Davis students share camping tips for a stress-free break — they recommend using second-hand gear from Facebook Marketplace, local shops like Easy Wind Gear, and the public library's borrowed supplies.   • The Aggies women's water polo team had 2 wins and 2 losses at the Triton Invite at UCSD, placing 10th of 16 teams. They will next compete at the Midwest Invite on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 in Ann Arbor before the Big West Competition.  The California Aggie
